Larry was born December 28, 1942, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Vernon and Ruby (Bowman) Kness. He attended Chadwick High School, graduating with the Class of 1961. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1964-67. On June 12, 1970, Larry married Barbara Schubert in Chadwick, Illinois. Together they celebrated 48 years of marriage, and raised one daughter, Peggy.
Larry worked as a Foreman for JT Cullen Co. for 35 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a past member of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation, the Thomson American Legion, and the National Rifle Association. Larry had a fondness for the several pug dogs he owned over the years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and in the timber deer hunting. He also enjoyed ice fishing, raising quail, and gardening—especially radishes, eating right out of the garden, and taking rides on country roads. Throughout life he spent time doing yard work at home and helped rototill gardens for other people in his earlier years.
Larry will be dearly missed by his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Peggy Kness of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; two brothers, Vernon “Bub” (Debra) Kness of Milledgeville, Illinois, and Dale Kness of Chadwick; five sisters, Joan Paddock of Sabula, Iowa, Cynthia Fossett of Savanna, Debra (Gary) Fogle of Bettendorf, Iowa, Norma (Mike) Brown of Laona, Wisconsin and Tyra (Gregg) Hemmer of Madison, Wisconsin. Larry is preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Darwin Paddock.
