Larry Phillip Ferris

Larry Phillip Ferris, age 66, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Friday, January 8, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. A Memorial Gathering will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Antl Hall next to St. John’s Catholic Church in Savanna. Larry was born on January 31, 1943, in Savanna to Charles F. and Nerrine A. (Coon) Ferris. He married Carol Sue Williams on March 14, 1964.Larry was a 1961 graduate of Savanna High School. He went on to serve forty-one years on the railroad as a clerk then ended his career as the bridge tender in Sabula, Iowa. A true sportsman, he enjoyed huntingand fishing with his son, John and his grandson, Logan. He gotta kick out of taking his younger grandkids, Katelynn and Brady, fishing many many times. Legend has it he was feared by both fish and fowl. Larry will be dearly missed by his wife Carol; two daughters, Lori Ferris and Amy Ferris Rice and one son, John Ferris; his grandchildren; Logan, Brady and Katelynn all of Savanna; two, brothers, Cliff (Susan) Ferris of Savanna and Eugene “Elmer” Ferris of Clinton, Iowa; two sister-in-laws, Jean Ferris and Donna Ford Ferris and several nieces and nephews.Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack and Charles Allan “Al” Ferris and one daughter Jacqueline Ferris.
