Larry was born November 23, 1948, son of Theodore and Luella (Williams) Elliott. He grew up in Elizabeth and attended Elizabeth High School, graduating in 1967. Soon after, Larry joined the United States Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. After his service, Larry continued his education, ultimately graduating from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Industrial Arts. During this time, Larry dated Carol Albrecht; they were married in 1973 and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Larry began his career by teaching Industrial Arts at Scales Mound High School. He then worked for Country Companies. He enjoyed many good friendships and pulled off many practical jokes during his career.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and Carol raised two children with much laughter along the way; their family has since grown through marriages and grandchildren. His family was the joy of his life.
Larry loved playing the guitar and singing the old favorites with friends. He was an accomplished woodworker who built furniture and a guitar. He also restored, and recently put an addition on, the family’s rock house. The farm was a lifelong labor of love, and where he was most happy. He enjoyed nothing more than when family gathered there, giving the grandkids rides on the John Deere Gator, and generally spoiling them any way he could.
Larry was known for his sharp wit and devilish sense of humor. He always had a clever joke at the ready. If he could make someone laugh, it was a good day.
Larry will be dearly missed by his wife, Carol Elliott of Elizabeth; two children, Erica (Michael Reynolds) Elliott of Katy, TX, and David (Melanie) Elliott of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren, Sam, Josh, Lucy, and Zach; one brother, Ted (Kathy) Elliott of Greenville, NC; sister-in-law, Barb (Jerry) Hatfield of Dixon, IL; Brother-in-law Bruce (Nancy) Albrecht, of St. Petersburg, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Luella.
