Larry L. Cox

Larry L. Cox, age 80, of Savanna, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Clinton Mercy One Hospital. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022, at New Hope Fellowship Church 415 3RD Street, Savanna, IL 61074 at 12 noon. Visitation will take place from 10am to 12 noon prior to the service. Burial will occur at Savanna Spring Lake Cemetery. Larry was born May 16, 1942, in Virginia, IL, the son of Delbert and Ruth (Lynn) Cox. He attended school in Cass County, IL. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On August 20, 1966, Larry married Patricia Fair Thurman in Savanna. Larry made a career with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, ultimately retiring after 30 years.

Larry was a proud member of the Savanna VFW and the American Legion. He volunteered to drive the VFW van to Iowa City and enjoyed his morning coffee reminiscing with the others VFW members. Larry loved the Lord and was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Savanna, where he served as President of the board for four years and took care of all the maintenance for many years. Larry enjoyed listening to Gospel music, watching his boys play sports, playing cards, watching old westerns and sports on TV with his wife and boys. He was most happy when he was spending time with family and friends reminiscing and socializing.

Larry is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Jeffrey Knouse, Lorrie Smith, Douglas Cox, and Greg (Krissy) Cox, all of Savanna, IL; 9 grandchildren, Ashley, Devon, Maggie, Hannah, Gavin, Jeffery, Sean (Angela), Brady (Sophi) and Madison; ten great-grandchildren, Landon, Brody, Cadence, Bentley, Garrett, Lucas, Autumn, Dawsyn, Dru and Dax; his brothers and sisters, Bonnie (Gary) Abney, of Savanna, Sue Fritchnitch, of Morris, IL, Linda (Larry) Stake, of Chillicothe, IL, and Jean Force, of Beardstown, IL., Susan (Mike) Fair of Camanche Iowa, David (Michelle) Brown of Yorba Linda California, Danny Brown of Savanna, Brad (Sherri) Thurman of Rushville, IL and many nieces and nephew. Larry is preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Delbert and Ruth Cox; Helen and Lester Fair brothers, Ronnie (Frankie) Cox, Sherald (Constance) Cox, Art Cox, Dean Cox, Donald Fair, Michael Fair; sisters, Betty (Fred) Mathis, Thelma (John) Carey, Shirley Cox and Marcia Bourland.
