Lane Lewis Furgason, age 57, of Chadwick, Illinois, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick with Reverend Marcia Strahl of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Gift of Life Foundation in Lane’s memory.
Lane was born October 17, 1952 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Robert L. and Margery (Queckboerner) Furgason. He grew up on a farm near Chadwick and graduated from the Chadwick High School, Class of 1971. Lane served in the US Navy as an Electrician’s Mate aboard a guided missile destroyer, serving in the Pacific, Vietnam and the Great Lakes. While between tours in the Navy, Lane worked as a cook for TGIFridays in Lexington, Kentucky. Lane owned Comfort Contractors, installing the first geothermal system in Carroll County. He also worked for Wahl Clipper, Sterling.
Lane enjoyed a good laugh and teasing. He loved animals, the outdoors, hunting and fishing. While he was a young man on the farm people would say, “Nobody could bale hay like Lane.” He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chadwick.
Lane will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Donna Johnson of Chadwick; his mother, Margery Furgason of Rockford; sister, Christine Furgason of Bowie, Maryland; and a daughter, Amanda Furgason of Lexington, Kentucky. Lane is preceded in death by his father.
