Kyle Brown, age 92, of rural Thomson, Illinois died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna with Reverend Nancy Carr officiating. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be given in Kyle’s name for Mercy Hospice.
Kyle was born March 10, 1916 on the family farm in Savanna Township, the son of Frank E. and Lydia Mae (Leavens) Brown. He attended the Timbuktu Country School. On June 12, 1951, Kyle married Ruth Strubb. This year they celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Kyle farmed his entire life near Thomson. He also operated the Spring Lake Resort, near Savanna, with his brothers for many years. He was a member of the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna, the Carroll County Farm Bureau, and a charter member of the Savanna Gun Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening. Most of all, Kyle loved the time he spent with family.
Kyle is survived by his wife, Ruth of Thomson; a son, Bruce (Bruna) Brown of Oswego, Illinois; a daughter, Debra Gunnarsson of Savanna; and eight grandchildren, Kayla and Carrie Brown; Mikel, Kori and Rachel Brown, Christina (John) Mall, Jill and Erik Gunnarsson; a sister in-law, Charlotte Brown of Savanna; and several nieces and nephews.
Kyle was preceded in death by two sons, Greg and Mark Brown; three brothers, Frank, Wayne and Dick; two sisters, Gladys Voss and Rua Lawler; and both parents.
