Kenneth “Russ” Russell Simpson age 70, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. A visitation will take place from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given to the family in Russ’ memory.
Russ was born August 29, 1947 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Kenneth and Leola (Brown) Simpson. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. Russ then went on to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering, where he received his bachelor’s degree. In 2015, Russ graduated from the UW Platteville with his master’s degree in Business.
Russ married the love of his life Susan Madey in Bensenville, Illinois on May 1, 1983. Russ and Sue owned and operated the Coast to Coast, which later became the True Value in Mt. Carroll. Russ served as president on the board and worked for Jo-Carroll Energy in Elizabeth for many years. Most recently, Russ owned and operated Business Support Resources LLC. in Mt. Carroll. He also taught online classes for the University of Illinois.
Russ was a member of the Palisades Amateur Radio Club, many will remember him signing off K9TI. He served on the Campbell Center Board in Mt. Carroll for many years. He enjoyed wood working and never missed the opportunity to teach leadership skills. Most of all, Russ cherished the moments that he spent watching his son’s sporting events. He was Cory’s biggest fan.
Russ will be dearly missed by his wife, Susan; son, Cory Simpson of Mt. Carroll; sister, Bonnie (Bob) Donnell of Sterling, Illinois; three brothers, Glenn (Linda) Simpson of Lewiston, Michigan, Junior (Nina) Simpson of Highland Park, Illinois, Kevin Simpson of Milledgeville, Illinois; father, Kenneth of Mt. Carroll; a sister in-law, Barbara (Russ) Sauer of San Jose, California; and many nieces and nephews. Russ was preceded in death by his mother.
