Katrina L. Hoist, age 54, of Freeport, IL, formerly of Savanna, IL, passed away July 2, 2022 at Allure Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will take place at Savanna Township Cemetery.
Katrina was born March 10, 1968, in Savanna, the daughter of Arnold and Helen (Peterson) Hoist. She attended Savanna schools before becoming certified as a dietician for the Savanna Hospital. She later would move to Chicago for a period of time, working as a security guard, before ultimately finding her way back home to the Savanna area.
Katrina was a loving person who made friends easily. She cherished her time spent with those she loved, most notably her children. Her love wasn’t just limited to people. Animals were always a big part of her life; cats and dogs, and most recently, a therapy cat. Katrina had a rough time with her health in her later years, but through it, she kept her love for life. In her final days she made sure to pass on her therapy cat to the next person in need, and gave away her plants, so that others could enjoy and surround themselves with that which would live on after she left us.
Katrina will be dearly missed by her daughter, Molly Neebel, and her son, Collin Neebel, both of Mt. Carroll; sisters, Kristina (Jeffrey) White, of Savanna and Katherine Hoist, of Savanna; niece, Kassondra Hoist, of Savanna; and nephews, Shea White and Kevin Atherton, both of Savanna.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Rose Hoist; parents, Arnold and Helen Hoist; grandparents, Gordon and Zelma Peterson.
