Kathy Schoenhaar, age 67, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 20, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Savanna.
Kathy was born December 30, 1949, the daughter of James “Bob” and Isabelle “Izzy” (Mangler) Brundage. She attended Sabula High School and graduated with the Class of 1968. Kathy married Richard “Dick” Schoenhaar on November 22, 1969 in Sabula, on the 25th anniversary of Bob and Izzy’s marriage.
Kathy was a loving mother and grandmother. She was not just a mother and grandmother to her own family, but all those who were fortunate enough to meet her. She was good at handing-down the kind of skills that only a Mom can give. She made a point to be kind and gentle-hearted, loved cooking Sunday dinners for her large family, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed playing games with her kids and grandchildren, especially Rummikub. She also loved hummingbirds, flowers and shopping. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula.
Kathy will be dearly missed by her husband of 47 years, Richard Schoenhaar; 10 children, Troy (Tammy) Schoenhaar, Bobbi (Duane) Ferguson, Chad (Amiee) Schoenhaar, Brandy (Roger) Johnson, Misty Feary, Corey Schoenhaar, Ricky Schoenhaar, Keri (Leo) Brown, Jamie (Grub) McCombie, and Amber Schoenhaar, all of Savanna; 26 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her mother, Isabelle “Izzy” Brundage of Sabula, Iowa; three sisters, Sandra (Jack) Kempter of Sabula, Tanya (Denny) Heintz of Fairfax, Iowa, and Kristi (Hank) Johnson of Sabula. Kathy is preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Schoenhaar; two grandsons, Devin Johnson and Donald Sipe; her father, James Brundage; and three brothers, Ricky, Jim and Dan “Beno”.
