Kathryn was born on July 7, 1929, the daughter of Max M. and Mildred A. (Bouvia) Dauphin in Savanna, Illinois. She attended Savanna High School and graduated as Valedictorian with the Class of 1946. She married Charles Perkins in 1952 and together they had one son, Jeff. Kathryn later married Cletus “Bernie” Johnson in 1956. Bernie died in May of 1984.
Kathryn worked several jobs in various parts of the country. She first worked as a “soda jerk” at Stransdale’s in Savanna and then went to work as a secretary for the Milwaukee Railroad. Kathryn and her family moved to Denver, Colorado, where she worked for Travelers Insurance for several years. They then moved to Reno, Nevada, where she worked for the Evening Gazette. While in Nevada, Kathryn also worked as a change girl for the Nevada Club Casino for eight years. Kathryn finally came back home to Savanna in 1970. They owned and operated the Mount Carroll Café for several years and her last place of employment was Swiss Colony, Savanna where she worked for eleven years. She loved the outdoors and her flower gardens. Most of all, Kathryn loved animals of all kinds, especially cats. Kathryn cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Kathryn will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jeff (Judy) Johnson of Savanna; six grandchildren, Alisa (Barret) Medley, Jeremiah (Pam) Johnson, Brandon (Randi) Johnson, Haley Johnson, Danielle Jennings and Brittany Flickinger; five great grandchildren, Carrisa, Kourtney, Kelsey, Jared and Bryson; one brother, Max (Carol) Dauphin of Savanna; one sister, Sheryl Schoenwolf of Savanna; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernie; one sister, Dorothy Marie Dauphin; one brother, Julius “Sonny” Dauphin; and one brother in-law, John Schoenwolf.
