Katherine “Katie” Potter could light up the room with her smile. At the age of 89, Katie passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Whitehall Nursing Center, Deerfield, Illinois. Katie was a longtime resident of Hanover, Illinois where a graveside service will be held 1 pm, Saturday, December 3rd 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Katie was born September 1, 1933, in Ottawa, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Michael and Pauline (Buzanes) Chamales. Katie is a first generation American, as her parents immigrated from Greece. She graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, Illinois. She later met and began dating a young Marine, (Carl) Ed Potter from Hanover, Illinois. On April 6, 1957 they were married. They raised two sons, John and Charles, and celebrated 59 years of marriage until Ed’s passing in 2016.
In addition to raising a family, Katie aided in Sunday school at the Methodist Church in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, ran the Management Office for International Village Schaumburg,Illinois and was the CEO’s Executive Admin at CAI Recon Optical in Barrington, Illinois.
Katie and Ed lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Palatine, Illinois before retiring to Hanover. Katie and Ed cherished traveling together and wintered in Ocala, Florida. Katie enjoyed going out with her sisters while in Ocala Florida and spending time with family while home in Illinois. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Katie is dearly missed by her two sons, John Potter of Buffalo Grove, Illinois and Charles (Alisha) Potter of Glenview, Illinois and her twin grandsons John and Michael and granddaughter Amber.
Having survived cancer some years back, Katie is preceded in death by her husband Ed, her parents Michael and Pauline Chamales, her brother John Chamales; her sisters Mary Chamales Lackos, Irene Chamales, Angeline Chamales Green, Georgia Chamales Kostka and Rosie Chamales.
We are blessed with her caring for all of us and having her for as long as possible, as she helped us be our best.
