Savanna, IL

Kary Dean Roe, 76, of Savanna, IL, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at Serenity Estates in Lena, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, in Savanna, IL.

Born on June 14, 1950, in Savanna, Kary was the son of Francis and Verna (Bretthauer) Roe. He graduated from Savanna High School before earning a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Southern Illinois University, preparing for a career dedicated to serving and protecting others.

On October 7, 1978, Kary married the love of his life, Marsha Reckinger, in Aurora, IL. Together they shared nearly 48 years of marriage and brought a daughter into the world.

Kary began his career as a police officer in Aurora, where he proudly served his community. He later continued his commitment to public service as a paramedic and volunteer firefighter with the Marywood Protection District in Aurora. He concluded his working career as a security officer for the Isle Casino in Bettendorf, IA, where he worked for more than ten years before retiring earlier this year.

Though his career was devoted to helping others, Kary found his greatest happiness in the simple moments of everyday life. His world revolved around his wife, Marsha, and their daughter, Megan. He treasured the time he spent with Megan, especially their trips to the local farmers market. At home, Kary and Marsha found joy in life's quiet routines. Whether watching a good movie together or sitting along the Mississippi River as barges drifted by, they never needed elaborate plans or grand adventures. For nearly five decades, they simply loved being together.

Kary will be dearly missed by his wife Marsha; daughter, Megan Roe, of Savanna; and numerous cousins. Kary is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Verna; father-in-law and mother-in-law, LaVern and Delores Reckinger; and two uncles.
