Karl F. Eppenstein, age 60, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away on February 14, 2026, at Iowa City Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, following a long illness.
Karl was born on January 8, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of James and Charlotte (Deveraux) Eppenstein. He moved to Savanna with his family in 1980, where he planted his roots.
On July 23, 1996, Karl married Catherine L. Disher in Rock Island, Illinois. Their love story was one of enduring devotion; including their years together prior to marriage, the couple shared over 42 years of life, love, and partnership.
Karl was a man who cherished the company of others. He enjoyed the outdoors while fishing and loved friendly competition, often playing poker, pool, and darts with his buddies. Most importantly, he loved spending quality time with his family and friends.
Karl will be dearly missed by his wife, Catherine of Savanna; his three daughters, Samantha of Savanna, Crystal of Savanna, and Angela (Amanda) LePrevost of Clinton, Iowa; and his three grandchildren, Nathan, Drake, and Lillian.
He is also survived by his brother, Nick (Diana) Eppenstein of Savanna; three sisters, Doreen Kwater of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Charlotte Fisher of York, Nebraska, and Shelley Preston of Stillman Valley, Illinois; his lifelong best friend, Chuck Rogers of Savanna; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Karl is preceded in death by his parents, James and Charlotte; his granddaughter, Felicity Hope Eppenstein; two brothers, Steven and Thomas; and six sisters, Roberta, Elizabeth Anderson, Shirley Nelson, Vivian Yorkman, Linda Barham, and Meta Conkling.
