Karen Sue Schriner, age 63, of Lanark, IL, passed away with her family by her side on the morning of December 21, 2023, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday December 27, 2023, at Lanark Church of the Brethren. Visitation will take place on Tuesday December 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., as well as one hour prior to Wednesday’s service, at the church. Family and friends are invited to share in Karen’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Karen was born March 24, 1960, in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Vernon and LaVeda (Durward) Alexander. She grew up in Chadwick, even attending Fairhaven Country School, a one-room school house, for the first grade. She would go on to graduate from Chadwick High School with the class of 1978.
On November 29, 1980, Karen married Dennis Schriner at Lanark Church of the Brethren. She and Denny enjoyed 43 years of marriage and farming, along with many trips to Hawaii, Texas, Florida, and most recently their house on Lake Carroll. They’ve lived a life filled with joy, provided largely by their family and the many friends and neighbors they have made in the Lanark and Lake Carroll areas.
Karen’s number one thing in life was her family. She enjoyed every part of her four kids’ growth through life; looking on with pride and a smile as they grew, learned, played sports, and became parent’s themselves. All that joy started over again as she’s been able to watch her grandkids grow and become involved in church, school activities, and sports. Karen was an awesome wife, mother, and grandmother. Her bookkeeping skills were second to none, and she was the creator of some of the most beautiful quilts, many of which told a special story.
After four bouts of cancer over 17 years, Karen’s family had to let go of her hand to let the Lord take her to her heavenly home. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Denny; four children, Shelley (Ryan) Stoner, Jamie (Justin) Martz, Callie (Ryne) Plager, and Austin (Marti) Schriner; 15 grandchildren, spanning ages 8 months to 17 years; three brothers, Ray (Barb) Alexander, Keith (Camella) Alexander, and Larry (Linda) Alexander; brother-in-law Keith (Joanie) Schriner. Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and LaVeda; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Mildred Schriner; sister-in-law, Sharon (Wayne) Schoonhoven.
