June Carolyn Horsman, age 87, of Shelbyville, Illinois passed away, 9:38 a.m. April 14, 2006 in Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, Shelbyville. Dr. David Middleton and Reverend Lee Lovett will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the Herrick Public Library, Herrick, Illinois or the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. June was born November 25, 1918 the daughter of L. Carl and Haskell May (Haney) Johnson in Arthur, Illinois. On May 1, 1955 June married Mason Wilmer Horsman in Shelbyville. Mason passed away on June 12, 2000.
June was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, the Herrick Home Extension, past board member of the Shelby County Home Extension, a board member of the Shelby County Extension Foundation, past President of the Herrick Public Library Board and instrumental in establishing the library, member of the Shelby County Public Aid Advisory Board, and active at the Shelbyville Senior Citizens building. She farmed with her husband in Herrick Township for thirty years and was the Manufacturer Representative for Sta-Rite Manufacturing Company and GB Sales in Shelbyville for twenty-five years.
June was known as a vibrant, genuine person who loved life. She would help anyone and everyone in need and loved to support people as they sought to improve their lives. She was always ready with good advice, and could be counted on to give a new perspective. She enjoyed a good round of golf and was a terrific and competitive and well-respected Bridge player. Everyone who knew her will miss her infectious laugh.
June will be deeply missed by a son, Tracy (Cindy) Jones of Mead, Colorado; a daughter, Dr. Judy Jones of Henniker, New Hampshire; a daughter in-law, Marilyn Jean Jones of Savanna, Illinois; seven grandchildren; twenty-four great- grandchildren; and a special friend and caretaker, Janet Nichols.
June was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mason Horsman and son, Melvin Jones who died in 1989.
