June Elizabeth Cummings, age 82, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Morrison Community Hospital after a sudden illness. A funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
June was born March 24, 1928 in Lincoln, Illinois, the daughter of Paul and Agnes (Tumilty) Knochel. She is a graduate of the Lincoln High School with the Class of 1946 and then attended Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois. On May 15, 1947, June married Harrison Cummings in Lincoln.
June enjoyed music, she taught voice lessons, sang, and played piano for dance studios, churches and other events. She was active in Girl Scouts as a Troop Leader and managed Girl Scout Camp Tapawingo near Peoria for two years. June also worked at Johnson Feed, Mt. Carroll, for twenty years as a secretary and bookkeeper.
She took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. June enjoyed bird-watching, cooking, sewing clothing, quilting, knitting, playing cards, crossword puzzles and especially traveling with Harrison to fish in Canada for thirty years.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Harrison of Mt. Carroll; four daughters, Linda McCuskey of Washburn, Jeanne (Dennis) Williamsom of Belvidere, Vicki Cummings of Rockford and Penny (Scott) Krum of Strafford, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and her brother, Dr. James (Joleen) Knochel of Dallas, Texas. June is preceded in death by both parents and a special Aunt, Margarite Pfau.
