Judy Cox

Judy Cox was a strong, loving, caring mother, and was very proud of her family. On Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the age of 77, Judy was reunited with her husband Dennis for eternity. A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service. Visitation will be held 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Judy was born September 7, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Emma (Hubbe) Whitmore. She attended Andrew Country School in Andrew, Iowa. On August 15, 1980, Judy married the love of her life Dennis Cox. They celebrated thirty-two years of marriage. Dennis passed away April 19, 2013.

Judy worked for Collis in Clinton, Iowa for many years and owned and operated the Oasis Café in Savanna. Judy’s hard work and dedication made her the best waitress around. She was a member of the York Community Congregational Church in Thomson, Illinois. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, traveling, made from scratch cooking, gardening, canning, camping, traveling with her family to see a light house in Boston, Massachusetts, Norfork Lake, Arkansas, Las Vegas. Judy’s winter hobby was to put together at least one jigsaw puzzle. Most of all Judy cherished the time that she spent with her family.

Judy is survived by her children, Barb (Gary) Tiesman of Clinton, Vickie (Bob) Foltz of Clinton, Rick (Susan) Walker of Stoneham, Massachusetts, Lori (Kevin) Law of Savanna, Stacy (Laura) Kessler of Greenback, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; siblings, Betty Roster of Colorado, Corky (Curly) Bruhn of Miles, Iowa, Kathy (Lyle) Adrian of Charlotte, Iowa, Dick (Sherrill) Whitmore of Thomson, Karen (Stan) Opala of Clinton, Rena (Archie) Archibauld of Missouri, Deni (Steve) Weimers of Iowa, Steve Whitmore of Maquoketa; three brothers in-law, Hugh Bowman of Maquoketa, Bill McDonald of Charlotte, Chester Cox of Illinois, and a mother in-law, Mary Cox of Auburn, Illinois. Judy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; three brothers, Gary, Ed and Billy; two sisters, Mary Bowman, Joan McDonald.
