Judith Gail Stevens was born at Savanna City Hospital to Ruth and William Stevens on November 19th, 1943 and died at Good Samaritan Nursing Home on Thursday, May 30, 2019. Judy graduated from Savanna High School in 1962 and went on to earn a PRN degree in 1964 and an RN degree in 1983. Most of her nursing career was centered on labor and delivery where she evidenced her abiding love of children.
She lived most of her life in the Savanna and Mount Carroll communities where she was an active member of the Savanna Community Church and later the Mount Carroll Church of God. A girl scout in her youth, she later served the Green Hills Council of Girl Scouts as a scout leader. For many years Judy was involved in the Timber Lake Playhouse, which inducted her into their Hall Fame in 2011 when her health necessitated retirement from her activity there. She also worked for many years as a volunteer for the Share program. She was a devoted lover of pets - cats and dogs - and adopted many throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Stevens, her father, William Stevens, her sister, Audrey Gleason and her brother, Jay Stevens. Judy is survived by her sister-in-law, Ethel Stevens, two nephews and a number of great-nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced this summer at the Mount Carroll Church of God. Donations in her memory may be offered to the Rockford office of the Illinois Alzheimer's Association at 1111 S. Alpine Rd #307, Rockford, IL 61108.
