Joyce A. Potter, age 88, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be given in Joyce’s name to the First United Methodist Church or the Elizabeth Historical Society.
Joyce was born on September 28, 1929, the daughter of Francis and Mary (Jones) Kevern in Freeport, Illinois. She attended Elizabeth High School and graduated with the Class of 1948. On December 21, 1950, Joyce married Charles Potter at the Hanover United Methodist Church. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before Charles’ death in 2010.
Joyce worked at a bookkeeper for the Jo Daviess Service Company for many years. She was a member of the Elizabeth First United Methodist Church, the Elizabeth Historical Society, and the Lion’s Club. Joyce enjoyed playing cards and gardening. She also was a proud D.A.R. member and delighted in researching her family’s genealogy. Everywhere Joyce went she was sure to share her humor and upbeat personality. Family was everything to her and she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joyce will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Cheryl Rife of Elizabeth, and Candis (Brad) Albrecht of Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Shean (Corey) Albrecht of Elizabeth, Jessica (Brian) Engle of Elizabeth, Trevor (Jessie) Albrecht of Salem Lakes, Wisconsin; Jerod (Kristen) Rife of Eagle River, Alaska; ten great-grandchildren, Caden and Addison Albrecht; Bryton, Avery, and Lily Engle; Otto and Iris Albrecht; Isaac, Samuel, and Elizabeth Rife; and a brother, Robert (Charlene) Kevern of Rockford, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents, Mary and Francis; and an infant brother, Delos.
