Joyce Nagel, age 70, of Miles, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, Iowa. Reverend Robert Krueger will officiate. Burial will follow in the Miles Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa.
Joyce was born September 17, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Howard Laverne and Frances Elaine (Hogg) Hill. She was a 1958 graduate of the DeWitt High School. On June 1, 1963, Joyce married Larry Nagel in Low Moor, Iowa. They enjoyed almost thirty-three years of marriage and were blessed with two wonderful children, Darren and Kelly. Her son Darren passed away in 1991 and her husband Larry passed away in 1996.
Joyce worked twenty-four years for C&J Farm Service in Miles. She had also worked as a secretary for Lord-Baltimore Press in Clinton. Joyce was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Sabula. She was a previous member of the Low Moor Methodist Church and the Miles Methodist Church. Joyce played the organ for three Churches each Sunday morning, and for many weddings and funerals. She would help lighten the day with her music and her cheerful way. Even while struggling with cancer Joyce stayed strong and took refuge in God, believing that "we don't walk by sight alone, we walk by faith".
Most of all Joyce treasured her grandchildren, Josh, Kaitlin, Colin and Will Marburger. In younger years she enjoyed serving as a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter Kelly's troop and taking trips with the girls. She was a member of the Miles Threshers and drove in the Antique Tractor Pulls. Joyce also liked gardening, bowling, and shopping. She followed in her mother's footsteps as she belonged to the Rainbow Girls and was a 50yr member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is loved and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Kelly (Brian) Marburger of Miles; her four loving grandchildren; her mother, Frances Hill of Miles; and her sister, Jean Hill (Bill Alvis) of Folletts, Iowa. Joyce is preceded in death by her father, her son, and her husband
