Joyce A. Monroe of Elizabeth, Illinois, died at the age of 91 on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover, Illinois with Reverend Kyungsu Park officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Joyce was born on April 11, 1923, the daughter of James and Mona (Weed) Andrews in Patch Grove, Wisconsin. She attended Patch Grove High School and graduated as Salutatorian of her class. She married Robert L. Monroe on April 14, 1946 the Hanover United Methodist Church. Robert died on January 31, 2000.
Joyce spent the majority of her adult years as a homemaker. In addition, she did clerical work for the Dubuque County Courthouse, and for the Savanna Army Depot. She also worked at Ben Franklin in Hanover, and as a secretary and custodian of her church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Royal Neighbors of America for over 50 years. Joyce was also a member of the Hanover VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and very involved with the Hanover United Methodist Church. She got fulfilment in doing things for the shut-ins in town, and enjoyed sending thoughtful cards to people who were hospitalized. She liked playing bridge and doing crosswords. She especially loved going dancing, and traveling with her husband, Robert.
Joyce will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Christine (Thom Bilyeu) Dunham of Richmond, Kentucky, and Robin (James) Whary of Pleasanton, Texas; three grandchildren, and three great-grandsons. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, James and Mona; one brother, Rodney, and an infant brother, Glen.
