Joyce Elizabeth Krohmer, age 86, of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Cremation rites will be accorded prior to the service. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth, with Pastor Mike Nesbit officiating. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2017, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Burial will take place in Woodbine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Joyce was born October 18, 1930, in Elizabeth, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Myrtle (Graham) Hopkins. She attended Elizabeth Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1948. On February 20, 1949, Joyce married Wayne Krohmer. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Wayne’s death in 2011.
Joyce was a wonderful mother and homemaker who also helped her husband work the family farm for many years. She later worked as a Social Services Director at Elizabeth Nursing Home for 10 years. Joyce was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, reading, baking, and loved her plants. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
Joyce will be dearly missed by her two children, Randolph W. (Tricia) Krohmer of Evergreen Park, Illinois, and Kristin E. (Val Genthe) Offenheiser of Dubuque, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Karl (Edith) Hadler, Andrea (Aaron Wiersema) Henrey, Todd (Jennifer) Henrey, Matthew Krohmer, Ian (Laura) Krohmer, Brandon Offenheiser, Alyson (Kyle) Young, Wesley (Sandy) Offenheiser, and Shaun (Tori) Offenheiser; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Harriet (Bud) Lindstrom of South Beloit, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; a daughter, Jayne Henrey; her parents; and four brothers, Charles, Robert, Howard, and Warren.
