Joyce Eileen Dickinson, age 84, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, followed by a luncheon in the Church Hall. Burial of ashes will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Sabula. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials in her memory may be given for the Pathways Living Center, Clinton, Iowa.
Joyce was born August 18, 1931 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Grace (Wall) Walker. She graduated from Miles High School, Miles, Iowa with the Class of 1949, and then attended St. Francis School of Nursing, Freeport, Illinois. On August 16, 1952, Joyce married Richard “Rick” Dickinson in Sabula. They raised seven children and celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage. Rick passed away November 6, 2009 in Sabula.
Joyce worked as a Registered Nurse for The Alverno Care Center in Clinton, Iowa for thirty-one years. She was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Parish in Sabula and a current member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Joyce loved caring for her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed having coffee with the girls, flower gardening, and in younger years, horseback riding.
Joyce will be dearly missed by seven children, Rick (Rae Ann) Dickinson of Sabula, David (Marvis) Dickinson of Morton, Illinois, Gayle Honeywell of Sabula, Dawn (Peter Magee) Dickinson of Scottsdale, Arizona, Greg Dickinson of Clinton, Steve (Renae) Dickinson of Urbandale, Iowa and Jeff (Lyn) Dickinson of Clinton; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a special niece, Sharon (John) Mangler of Sabula. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband; both parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Myron) Sell; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne (Jeanne) Walker; and a sister, Joan Thompson.
