Joyce Ann Camp, 92, of Elvira, Iowa, and Elberta, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of her family.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church in Elvira, Iowa, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in Elvira Cemetery, where Joyce will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband of sixty-six years, Victor. Memorials may be directed to the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church Pantry.
Joyce was born on August 6, 1933, in Clinton, Iowa, to Milton and Lucella (Krumwiede) Schmidt. She grew up in the Preston area and graduated from Preston High School before continuing her education at the Jane Lamb Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1954.
On February 14, 1954, Joyce married the love of her life, Victor G. Camp, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa. Following Victor’s service in the United States Navy, the couple returned to eastern Iowa, eventually purchasing their farm near Elvira in 1961. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and caring for others. Victor preceded her in death on September 25, 2020, after more than sixty-six years of marriage.
Joyce devoted her professional life to nursing, serving patients with compassion and skill at Jane Lamb Hospital. Her caring spirit extended well beyond the hospital walls. She was deeply involved in her churches, faithfully serving at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and later Grace Lutheran Church while wintering in Alabama. She was active in church ministries and food pantries, enjoyed participating in her 500 Card Club, and treasured time spent with friends and neighbors. Above all, Joyce’s greatest joy was her family. She shared a deep and abiding Christian faith that shaped the way she lived, loved, and served others.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children, David (Martha) Camp of Greenville, South Carolina; Scott Camp of Okinawa, Japan; Laura (James) Van Pietersom of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Victoria (Douglas) Langfeldt of Summerdale, Alabama. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Bryan (Carly) Langfeldt of Elvira, Iowa, Austin (Heather) Langfeldt of Pensacola, Florida, Spencer Van Pietersom of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Lindsey Van Pietersom of Onalaska, Wisconsin; four great-grandchildren, Ella, Ava, Ava and Alison; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; her son, Brian Camp; her parents, Milton and Lucella Schmidt; her brothers, Wallace and Grant Schmidt; and her sister, Lucella Jargo.
