Josephine Vavpotic

Josephine Vavpotic, age 93 of Freeport, IL, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Stephenson Nursing Center, Freeport, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Church of St. Mary, Elizabeth, IL. Burial will take place in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth.

Josephine was born August 15, 1924, in Nova Mesta, Slovenia, the daughter of Joseph and Maria (Belec) Zeljko. She graduated from Ljubljana Gimnaziaja in Slovenia. Josephine was a homemaker, who spent time with her family. Josephine married Frank Vavpotic on August 1953 in St. Stephen’s Slovenian Catholic Church (Now Christo Rey), in Chicago, IL.

Josephine will be dearly missed by her husband, Frank; son Frank (Kathy) Vavpotic, Jr. of Galena, IL and two grandchildren: Elyse (Scott) Meinert of Rock City, IL and Alison (Scott) Bierwirth of Pasadena, CA; one great grandson, Braeden Meinert; and one sister, Frances Zeljko of Nisswa, MN. Josephine is preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Maria Struklje.
