Joseph Raymond Riepe

Joseph Raymond Riepe, age 70, of Preston, Iowa, died on Friday, November 2, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center South, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rights have been accorded. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., immediately following the gathering at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Joseph’s memory.
Joseph was born on October 11, 1942, the son of Albert and Marjorie (Cammack) Riepe in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He attended Mt. Pleasant Schools and graduated with the Class of 1960. Joseph also attended Drake University and graduated with the Class of 1964. Joe ran Cross Country for Drake University and was awarded the “All Time” Drake University Cross Country Certificate in 1981.
Joseph taught for the Preston School District for thirty-five years. He taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies, Senior Government and coached basketball and football. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, canoeing, fishing, and golfing. He also enjoyed driving through the countryside and Green Island bottoms with his son, Adam. Joseph was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Iowa, along with the Masonic Lodge.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Todd (Janie) Riepe of Delafield, Wisconsin and Adam Riepe (Ally Jamison) of Spragueville, Iowa; one daughter, Jill (Brian) Schulz of Lockport, New York; two granddaughters, Lily and Sophie Schulz; one brother, Mike (Heidi) Riepe of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one sister, Linda Woods of Libertyville, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Riepe.
