Joseph E. Kendall Jr. age 76 of Lanark, Illinois died on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan, Mount Carroll. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2012, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Joe was born on January 5, 1936, the son of Joseph E. and Agnes V. (German) Kendall, Sr. in Washington, D.C. He served his country in the United States Air Force for four years and served in the Air Force Reserves for an additional two years. Later on after moving to Illinois, Joe also served in the United States Army Reserves for eight years and is a member of the American Legion.
Joe worked for Trailways Bus Line for twelve years in the Washington D.C area. While working for Trailways he would meet his future wife, Lorraine D. Hennen. They were married on April 30, 1960 in Gaffney, South Carolina. In 1970 Joe and his family moved to Illinois where he began working for Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Freeport. Joe retired from Kelly Springfield after 24 years of employment. In 1995 he and Lorraine moved to the Mount Carroll and Lanark area. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, he especially liked fishing. He also enjoyed collecting and recycling cans, bowling, and playing computer/TV games. Most of all, Joe loved spending time with family and friends.
Joe will be dearly missed by his wife, Lorraine of Lanark; one son Joe Kendall III of Mount Carroll; one daughter, Tracee (Jerry) Keeney of Lena, Illinois; six grandchildren, Jeremy Kendall, Ashley Brown, Amanda Kendall, April (Dan) Rucker, Alicia (Jake) Kness and Arielle Keeney; three step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one brother, Louis Kendall of Washington, D.C.
