Joseph W. “Joe” Trenkamp, age 93, of Preston, Iowa, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the Jackson County Regional Medical Center, Maquoketa, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30am on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa with Father Don Plamondon as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Preston, with Full Military rites accorded by the Preston American Legion Post #602. Friends may call from 3pm until 8pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston. A memorial fund has been established in Joe’s memory. Joe was born October 16, 1914 in Sugar Creek, near Preston, the son of Henry and Christina (Banowetz) Trenkamp. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Sugar Creek. Joe later served in the United States Army during World War II, in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.
Joe founded, owned and operated the Preston Ready Mix for over 20 years retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston, American Legion Post #602, and a retired Volunteer Fireman. Joe enjoyed playing cards and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Joe is survived by six brothers; Leo (Irene) Trenkamp, Frank Trenkamp, Bernard Trenkamp, Edward (Lillian) Trenkamp, Henry “Hank” (Marian) Trenkamp, and Ray (Velma) Trenkamp, all of Preston; a sister, Margaret (Adrian) Roling of Preston, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John “Jack” and (Delores) Trenkamp, August Trenkamp, Angel Trenkamp, William Henry Trenkamp, and Jim Trenkamp; six sisters, Caroline “Carrie” (Walter) (Clem) Empen, Marie “Mayme”(Ray) Feller, Catherine “Kate” (Bert) Henningsen, Wilhemina “Minnie” (Herbert) Feller, Theresa (Johnnie Gonner) (Francis Bachman) and Eva (Jake) Knutsen; two deceased sisters in-law, Lillian “Mrs. Frank” Trenkamp and Corena “Mrs. Bernard” Trenkamp.
