Jonell Castellani, 77, died suddenly at home in Chadwick, IL, on August 4th, 2024. There will be no services at this time. The family would like donations to be made to the Chadwick Public Library.
Jonell was born on January 25, 1947, in Sterling, IL, the daughter of Roy and Phyllis (Bleitz) Lumbard. She grew up in Erie, IL, where she attended and graduated from Erie High School. Jonell then continued her education at Augustana College where she earned her master’s degree in music by the late 70’s.
One day, Jonell decided she was going to buy a dog from a shelter in Dixon. Little did she know that she would find the love of her life, Jim, while adopting a dog. It was love at first sight that continued for the next 27 years. Jonell and Jim both put much pride in their openness and honesty to each other. During those 27 years, they only spent two days apart from one another.
Jonell will be remembered as a community minded, honest, wholesome, selfless, and caring individual. She was the Director of the Chadwick Public Library for 22 years, putting her passion for English on display for her community. She would never shy away from someone who needed help. She was an avid supporter of Doctors Without Borders. When she had free time, Jonell enjoyed her gardening, reading, and playing the drums.
Jonell will be dearly missed by her husband, Jim. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Phyllis; and her dearly beloved aunt, Zeta Bleitz.
