Jonathan Mark Kragel

May 28, 1957 — February 6, 2026

Thomson, Illinois

Jonathan Mark Kragel passed away after an extended illness on February 6, 2026 at home. He was born May 28, 1957, in Queensboro, New York, and was the son of Ronald and Joyce (Martin) Kragel. He graduated from high school in New York and later served in the United States Navy.

Jonathan worked as a forklift operator and was a proud member of Teamsters Union Local 702. He was a devoted father and raised two children, Jonathan Jr. and Shannon.

On December 13, 2013, Jonathan married Jody Marie (Anderson) Carley. Together, they built a strong partnership and shared life side by side. Through their marriage, Jonathan also gained and loved Jody’s children: Melissa Ganz, Dani-Jo Carley, and Amber Fritzenmeier.

Jonathan enjoyed the simple, meaningful things in life. He was an avid golfer, and he loved fishing with his buddies, Don Carlson and Cory Fritzenmeier. Each year he planted a garden and took great pride in it. Some of his favorite moments were sitting outside around the fire pit with Don and a cold beer—talking, laughing, and enjoying the evening.

Jonathan is survived by his wife, Jody, of Thomson; his children, Jonathan Kragel Jr., and Shannon (Alex) Evitt; his stepchildren, Melissa Ganz, Dani-Jo Carley, and Amber Fritzenmeier; 29 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Christopher (Marianne) Kragel; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Patrick (Susan) Anderson, Bonnie (Don) Carlson, Dena Anderson, Jeannine Eldrenkamp, and Tascha Tix. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jonathan loved hard and cared deeply for everyone in his life. He will be greatly missed.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at their home.
