John Weaver

January 31, 1954 — December 11, 2014

John Alan Weaver lived life with conviction, embracing his friends and family with truth and love. At the age of 60, John passed into Heaven from his home near Shannon, Illinois. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial of ashes will be in the Lanark Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014.
John was born January 31, 1954 in Huntington, Indiana, the son of Paul Levi and Frances (Rench) Weaver. In 1969, the Weavers moved back to Carroll County, returning to the Cherry Grove area where Grandpa Weaver served as Pastor of the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren years before.
John graduated from the Lanark High School with the Class of 1972. As a young man he farmed and also worked at the Plum Tree Ski Lodge at Lake Carroll. He later was part owner of Messing & Becker Sporting Goods in Freeport until 1991. He also worked with his brother for three years, helping to computerize the business of Tee-Lee Popcorn, Shannon.John's favorite place to travel was Key West. When he was home in Cherry Grove, he was busy restoring the old historic stone home in which he lived. He enjoyed working outdoors.
At the age of 42, John began living life with a renewed sense of conviction, and that has made all the difference. He has been thankful during these years for his family and friends, especially as he has battled with cancer since 2004. He has always kept a positive, loving outlook throughout his life.John will be dearly missed by his friend, Paul Holden of Shannon; seven brothers and sisters, Paul Weaver, Jr. of Lanark, Joyce Ellen Truitt of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Martha Stephan of Markel, Indiana, Carolyn Flaugher of Liberty Center, Indiana, James Weaver of Shannon, Jane Schenkel of Huntington, Indiana, and Joe Weaver of Blowing Rock, North Carolina; one aunt, JoAnne Hodson of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by both parents.
