John D. Velcich

John D. Velcich, age 83 of Lake Carroll, Illinois formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in St. Cashmere Cemetery, Mt. Greenwood at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 in John’s memory.
John was born February 16, 1930, the son of Antone and Antica (Mikicic) Velcich on the island of Cres’ in the town of Beli located in Croatia. He attended schools in Croatia and came to the United States when he was seventeen years old. On January 11, 1958 John married Rosemary Vidinich in Chicago. John honorably served in the United States Army for four years, during the Korean War. He worked for RR Donnally as a head foreman in Chicago, until his retirement in 1988.
John enjoyed wood working and being able to restore old furniture to its original beauty. Most of all he cherished and loved spending time with his family.
John will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-five years, Rosemary of Lanark; two sons, Richard Velcich of worth, Illinois, Anthony “Tony” Velcich of Lanark; two daughters, Lora (Srecko) Vidovich of Joliet, Illinois; Mary Rose (Paul) Zaryczny of La Grange Park, Illinois; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dominick as a small child and a sister, Antica Velcich.
