John Sour, age 81, of Argo Fay, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2008 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, Illinois. Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2008, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A memorial fund has been established in John’s memory.
John was born on January 11, 1927 in Thomson, Illinois, the son of Henry C. and Bernice L. (Holman) Sour. He attended Sand Ridge Country School near Thomson and later attended Thomson Elementary School. John married Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ann Ditsworth on November 6, 1948 in Epworth, Iowa.
John farmed his entire life on the family farm in rural Argo Fay, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Argo Fay Methodist Church. John was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Sterling, Illinois and previously served on the Upper and Lower York Cemetery boards. He enjoyed painting, fishing, gardening, and golfing. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family.
John will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Lizzie; a son, Ronald (Christine) Sour of Argo Fay; a daughter, Laurie Lynn (John) Hill of Argo Fay; four grandchildren, Angela (John) Ricketts, Pamela (Jeremiah) Johnson, Jason (Laura) Hill, and Scott (Stacy) Hill; ten great grandchildren; and a sister in-law, Carolyn Kosier of Savanna. John was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Michael.
