John E. Scott, age 73, of Savanna, Illinois, formerly of Elgin, Illinois, died Monday, February 6, 2012, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna.
John was born March 30, 1938, in Crittenden County, Kentucky, the son of Francis Marion and Mary Louise (Coker) Scott. He attended school in Kentucky. John worked as a cross - country truck driver for fifteen years. He then worked as a heavy machinery operator in the Chicago area for the Midwest Operating Engineers Local #150, retiring in 2000.
John moved to Savanna four years ago to enjoy his retirement and be close to the Mississippi River. He loved to fish and just be out on the river in his boat. Living in Savanna, he was also closer to his family and enjoyed spending time with his great nieces.
John is survived by one son, Eric Wayne Scott of Hebron, Illinois; two step daughters, Annette Scott of Memphis, Tennessee, and Sarah Scott of Chicago, Illinois; one sister, Frances “Sissy” Ensey of Savanna, Illinois; two brothers, George and his wife Bee Scott of Keokuk, Iowa, and Mike Scott of Savanna, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Marion Scott; and two brothers, Ollie and Charles Scott.
