John Leo Richard, age 70, of Savanna, IL, passed away August 28, 2023 at Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon, IL. Private services will be held, and burial will take place at Lanark Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to share in John’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

John’s family would like to extend their thanks to Serenity Hospice and Allure Nursing Home, as well as to Dr. Woods, for the care they showed John. Memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home at 1658 S. IL Route 2, Oregon, IL 61061.

John was born April 5, 1953 in Dubuque, IA, the son of David and Catheryn (Steward) Richard. He attended Lanark schools, graduating from Lanark High School with the class of 1972. On April 14, 1973, John married Peggy Miller at SS John and Catherine Catholic Church, in Mt. Carroll, IL.

John was a welder by trade and worked for E.D. Entrye and Woods Equipment in Oregon, IL, retiring in 2008. In his free time John enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, trail riding: anything that put him in the great outdoors. He was always fond of classic cars and trucks, and loved spending time at family gatherings. He was a fun loving man, who will be deeply missed by many.

John is survived by his wife, Peggy; siblings, David (LeAnn) Richard, of Mt. Morris, IL, Catheryn (Marlin) Sweitzer, of Lanark, IL, Edith (Terry) Blair, of Milledgeville, IL, Mary (David) Toepher, of Pearl City, IL, Edward (Debbie) Richard, of Rock Falls, IL, Debbie Oltmanns, of Mt. Morris, IL, and Linda Richard, of Ocala, FL; as well as many special nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. John is preceded in death by his parents, David and Catheryn.
