John T. Pociecha, age 81, of Chadwick, Illinois passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at home. A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Private burial will take place at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll.
John was born January 15, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John and Genevieve (Smokowski) Pociecha. He attended Tuley High School, Chicago. On September 18, 1954, John married Patricia Suwinski in Shawneetown, Illinois. They raised 9 children and celebrated 63 years of marriage.
John worked for the City of Chicago Sewer Department for 22 years, retiring in 2000. He belonged to Local #1001. John enjoyed woodworking and playing chess with family and friends. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan, liked listening to classic rock, and had a great sense of humor. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family. As he was in their midst, he would say, “I don’t need to win the lottery, I already have.”
John will be dearly missed by five daughters, Deborah Shore, Cheryl Kowalczyk, Katherine Pociecha, Christine (Kevin) Sheridan and Karen (Bobby) Muscari; a son, Mark Pociecha; a daughter in-law, Debbie Pociecha; a son in-law, Michael Cappello; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Hohn; a brother, Tom (Helen) Pociecha; a sister in-law, Karen Pociecha.
John is preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Ann Cappello; two sons, Frank Pociecha and Johnny Pociecha; two sons-in-law, Thom Shore and Richard Kowalczyk; two brothers, Ronald Pociecha and Billy Pociecha; a sister in-law, Bee Pociecha; and a brother in-law, Mel Hohn.
