John "Johnnyo" Patrick O'Reilly, age 59, passed away unexpectedly April 15th, 2023 at his home in Dubuque, IA. A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
John was born November 28, 1963, son of Edward and Joan (Brennan) O'Reilly. He grew up in the Chicago suburb of Skokie, Illinois and attended Niles East High School, graduating with the class of 1982. In 1991 John moved from the big city to Savanna, IL. In Savanna he worked for Elkay for a number of years, as well as Swiss Colony.
John was always down to have a good time and lived life to the fullest. He had just the perfect mix of humor and sarcasm. John had a passion for music, especially classic rock. He enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR. When he wasn’t working, he would volunteer his time at the warming center at the Dubuque Rescue Mission.
John's greatest joy was his family. He absolutely loved being a grandpa and was very proud of his three grandsons.
John will be dearly missed by his daughter, Nicole Shepherd of Savanna; his son, William O'Reilly of Savanna; three grandsons, Michael and Nathaniel Shepherd of Savanna; and Mason Shepherd of Freeport Illinois; two siblings, Marguerite (George) Streske of Chicago, and James (Linda) O'Reilly of Skokie, IL; and multiple nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Joan, and his sister, Kathleen.
