John C. Nolting, age 84, of Preston, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Eagle Point Nursing Home in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Spragueville, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Spragueville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday prior to the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in John’s honor.

John was born July 28, 1925, in Preston, Iowa, the son of Karl A. and Gladys (Wikoff) Nolting. He attended the Fairfield Township School in rural Preston, Iowa. John enlisted in the United States Army on October 25, 1944. He served in the Philippines and Japan with the 1st Calvary Division and was awarded the Bronze Battle Star. John was Honorably Discharged on November 17, 1946.

John was united in marriage to Christina K. Jansen on February 14, 1952, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Spragueville. John farmed in the Preston area for over sixty years. He loved working on the farm and tinkering in the machine shed. John was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Spragueville and the Spragueville American Legion Post #590.

John is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Christina Nolting; three daughters, Nancy (Ronald) Eshelman of Des Moines, Iowa, Karen (Joseph) Webb of Fulton, Illinois, and Mary (Douglas) Hartman of Fulton; seven grandchildren, Susan Eshelman, Ronald Eshelman Jr., John Webb, Maryann Webb, Jason Webb, Brett (Britni) Hartman, and Nathan Hartman; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Loren (Geraldine) Nolting of Preston, Iowa, and Wayne (Arlene) Nolting of Preston; and a God son, Ricky Taylor.

John was preceded in death by his parents.
