John E. Miller Jr. age 72, of Morrison, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll with a Masonic Service held at 7:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to share in John’s life atwww.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
John was born on January 6, 1944 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of James and Charlotte (Miller) Devine. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1962. He later attended Lab Tech Training in Minneapolis, Minnesota and became a Nuclear Safety Trainer at the Cordova Nuclear Power Plant in Cordova, Illinois.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening and cooking. Most of all, John loved being with his family. He was a member of the member of the Dunlap Masonic Lodge #321 in Morrison and also the Tebala Shriners.
John is lovingly remembered by his children, Chad Miller of Woodbury, Minnesota, Melinda Miller of Morrison, Jonna (Ron) Bieber of Woodstock, Illinois, James (Sue) Miller of Prophetstown, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kaeden Miller, Andrew Hames, Jacob Hames, Logan Miller, Jim Miller Jr.; two great grandchildren; 10 brothers and sisters, Rick (Deb) Miller of Mt. Carroll, Douglas (Karen) Miller of Mt. Carroll, Mike (Jeri) Miller of Mt. Carroll, Bob Miller of East Moline, Illinois, Sherri (Ed) Traum of Mt. Carroll, Sharon Woodhurst of Mt. Carroll, Roger (Brenda) Miller of Savanna, Wendy (Art) Sipe of Mt. Carroll, Jeanie (Kyle) Schnitzler of Mt. Carroll, Larry (Cheryl) Hanson of South Elgin, Illinois, Bob (Cherie) Hanson of Belleville, Wisconsin and Wayne (Michelle) Hanson of Boscobel, Wisconsin. John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Charlotte Devine and John E. Miller Sr. and Fran Hanson and his brother Kevin Hanson.
