John “Possum” Michael Mueller, age 61, of Lanark, IL, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023 at University of Wisconsin Hospital surrounded by his family. A celebration of life will be held on his birthday, Saturday April 22, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Lanark, IL.
John was born April 22, 1961 in Freeport, IL, the son of Michael and Sylvia (Champion) Mueller. He graduated from Lanark High School (The Fighting Beavers) in 1979. John then went on to Whiteside Vocational School and became a brick layer, working for Mueller Masonry with his father and brother for over 30 years. Most recently, John worked at Midwestern BioAg, in Milledgeville, IL. John also served as president of the Lanark Community Club for more than 20 years.
On September 30, 1989 John married Robin Johnson, in Shannon, IL, and together they had two boys. His free time was spent with family, playing cards with friends at Don's cabin and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. He also was an avid NASCAR fan with Dale Earhardt Sr. being his favorite driver. He and Robin loved to go for rides on his Harley Davidson and in his 1984 Chevy Camaro. John was the type to always take the “scenic route,” as he referred to it, or as his family referred to it, the “long way.” John and Robin loved taking the kids boating on the Mississippi River. As his kids grew into adulthood, the roles switched, and he was able to tag along on his son’s boat with his grandchildren. His granddaughter Vaida, his “Punkin Head” was his greatest source of joy in his last years, and he was so proud of his newly born grandson, Lux.
John will be dearly missed by his wife of 33 years, Robin; sons, Ryan (Morgan) Mueller, of Lanark and Tyler (Jillian) Mueller, of Verona, WI; grandchildren, Vaida and Lux Mueller; sister, Susan (Mark) Sturtevant, of Shannon; brother, Mark (Sherrie) Mueller, of Mt. Carroll, IL; niece Emily Mueller, nephew Paul Sturtevant; and mother-in-law, Darlene Johnson. John is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Sylvia and father-in-law, Lynn Johnson.
