John A. Marburger, age 63, of Sabula, Iowa, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. The pallbearers will be Kenneth John Arnold, Deriek Arnold, Dalton Milder, Greg Greve, Dave Marshall and Mike Greve and one special honorary pallbearer, Roger Campbell. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Calvary Lutheran Church. A memorial fund has been established in John’s memory.
John was born on November 22, 1947, the son of Edward W. and Alberta J. (Boock) Marburger in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Sabula Schools and later earned his G.E.D. John was united in marriage to Leone K. Lehnertz on February 8, 1965 in Mount Carroll, Illinois.
John began working for Carlon in Clinton, Iowa as a laborer and was promoted to Warehouse Superintendent before retiring in 1999. After retiring, John enjoyed sitting outside and watching the river as the boats and trains passed. John and his wife, Leone were members of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula. He enjoyed traveling, cruising around Sabula and watching cooking shows on television. He was also interested in technology and keeping up with the latest electronics. John loved spending time with his family and sharing advice with his grandchildren.
John will be dearly missed by his wife of forty-six years, Leone of Sabula; three daughters, Jennifer (Irving Griffin) White of Rock Island, Illinois, Melissa Marburger of Pella, Iowa and Linda (Mark) Milder of Sabula; seven grandchildren, K.J. and Deriek Arnold, Kasey Walker, Mallory, Dalton and Chandler Milder and Aviera Marburger; four great grandchildren, Natan Arnold and Ellie, Emma and Miley Arnold; five brothers, Richard “Ike” (Carole) Marburger of Sabula, Robert “Boober” Marburger of Sabula, Gary (Penny) Marburger of Ottumwa, Iowa, Thomas “Hans” (Sandy) Marburger of Davenport, Iowa and Dean (Janet) Marburger of Flagstaff, Arizona; and two sisters, Barbara Marshall of Sabula and Bonnie Greve-House of Manchester, Iowa.
John was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Alysia K. Marburger.
