John Logan Machen, Jr., age 84, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. Reverend Robert Hamilton of the Community Church in Savanna will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Warren, Illinois.
John was born on April 6, 1923 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of John L. and Ethel L. (Smith) Machen Sr. John lived most of his life in Savanna and was a resident at the Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna for over 23 years. He loved spending time with his fellow residents and his special friend, Sandy the dog. He also enjoyed watching the bald eagles at lock and dam 13, fishing and most of all, rib-eye steaks. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and neighbors. John was preceded in death by his parents.
