John W. "Jack" Fosdick, age 50, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at home after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna. Reverend Larry Thompson will officiate.
Jack was born June 13, 1960 in Savanna, the son of Robert and Patricia (Clough) Fosdick. He attended Savanna Schools where he enjoyed wrestling, football and school plays. He graduated with the Class of 1978. Jack still holds wrestling records in Illinois and was an inductee to the Northwest Illinois Sports Hall of Fame. On May 20, 1983 his best friend in life, Lynette Barten, became his partner and wife. They celebrated 27 years of marriage.
Jack loved the time he spent with family and friends. His life revolved around helping others through working many tireless hours as he particularly enjoyed cooking for benefits. Family relationships meant everything to him. He was always kind-hearted and believed in forgiveness.
Together, Jack and Lynette built a business out of a passion for cooking. They first made barbeque sauce for the Taste of Savanna Methodist Church booth. In 1997 they began bottling their home-made sauce named, Fat Jack’s “Q” Sauce. Jack’s "Q" sauce has won regional and national taste awards. Jack also won many awards for his barbeque cooking.
Jack was a member of the First united Methodist Church of Savanna. He was a past Govenor and member of the Savanna Moose Lodge. Jack served 14 years on the Savanna City Council and 4 years on the Carroll County Board.
Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Lynette of Savanna; his parents, Bob and Patt Fosdick of Savanna; three sisters, Rhonda (Wally) Mercer of Hanover, Illinois, Diane (Bill) Robinson of Savanna and Joy Turner of Davenport, Iowa; three brothers, Dave (Carol) Fosdick of Savanna, Joe (Debbie) Fosdick of Florida and Todd (Erica) Fosdick of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Jack is preceded in death by all of his grandparents; and a brother in-law, Guy Turner.
