John E. Hill, age 64, of Thomson, IL, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, IA. Cremation rites will be accorded. A funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, August 27, at the Church of God in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will occur Monday, August 26, 2019 from 4pm to 7pm at Law Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, and at the Church of God, one hour prior to Tuesday’s service. A memorial fund has been established in John’s name.
John was born July 19, 1955 in Clinton IA, the son of George and Betty (Kruse) Hill. He attended Fulton schools, graduating with the class of 1973. On September 6, 1975, John married Laurie Sour; and together the two went on to have two children. John dedicated 30 plus years of his life to working for Chemplex in Clinton, most recently named Lyondell Basell. After his retirement, he became a home and property inspector.
John was an avid golfer, and a member of Oakville and Lake Carroll country clubs. He enjoyed keeping busy, whether it was carpentry, fixing and tinkering with things around the house, or serving as “parks and recreation manager” (as he put it) of his property. But most of all, John loved spending time with his family. Family trips to Florida and Disney World were always a favorite, and he adored every minute he could spend with his grandchildren.
John will be dearly missed by his wife Laurie; his sons Jason (Laura) Hill of Mt. Carroll, IL and Scott (Stacy) Hill of Thomson, IL; his five grandchildren, Allen, Olivia, Deacon, Kylie, and Dillon; his three brothers Dave (Gini) Hill of Clinton, IA, Jim (Cindy) Hill of Clinton, IA, and Mike (Karen) Hill of Albany, IL; his sister Lisa Hill of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Pam Hill.
