John T. Derrer, age 91, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Trinity West Hospital, Rock Island, Illinois, as a result of a vehicle accident. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday January 9, 2008, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, with Reverend David Vidler officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Memorials should be to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll, in John’s name.
John was born on October 5, 1916 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, the son of John and Edith (Elliott) Derrer. John graduated from Mt. Carroll High School and a few years later married Arlene Asay in Clinton, Iowa on November 20, 1939. John began farming and continued dairy farming nearly all of his life in the Mt. Carroll Area. John raised hogs and pure-bread Holsteins. John was always active, not letting any grass grow under his feet. He loved doing volunteer work such as serving on the Church Board and the Farm Bureau, and gardening and wood working in his leisure time.
John will be dearly missed by his wife Arlene of Mt. Carroll, currently residing in Liberty Village, Freeport, Illinois; his daughter Diane (Lowell) Buck of Pearl City, Illinois; his son Thomas Glen (Terrie) of Dennison, Texas; five grandchildren: Brandie, T.J., Tyler, Tera and Angela; one great grandson Jacob; and a brother-in-law Edward Brymer, of Gilmer, Texas.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Russell, and his two sisters, Jeanette Carpenter and Phyllis Brymer.
