John F. Breuning

November 16, 1922 — April 25, 2019

John F. Breuning, age 96, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Cremation Rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Manny’s Pizza in Savanna. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established to support West Carroll FFA in John’s memory.

John was born on November 16, 1922, at home, the son of John and Mary (Randecker) Breuning in rural Massbach, Illinois. John worked as a farmer and cattle buyer his whole life. In 1938, John bought the current family farm at the age of 16. From the early 1960’s, John owned and operated Savanna Livestock Sales and he also had a trucking business. He loved his family and enjoyed dinners out and having breakfast with his family every Sunday morning at the Kountry Kettle.

John will be dearly missed by his five children, Gloria Scott of Lander, Wyoming, Jeannette (Jason) Sturtevant of Savanna, Peggy (Robert) Cini of Starkville, Mississippi, Richard (Dee) Breuning of Savanna and Lisa (Rick) Chobar of Aurora, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one step grandson; two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Haas of Stockton, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Neta Breuning of Mt. Carroll.

John is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Allen Breuning; a sister, Margaret Groezinger; and and step granddaughter in 2015.
