Joe Pash

Joe Simon Pash, age 89, of Hanover IL died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque IA surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover.
Joe was born in Buena Vista, Illinois son of Simon and Anna (Maas) Pash on November 3, 1925. The family moved to the Warren-Nora area, where Joe attended school and worked on several local farms. Joe was inducted into the U.S. Army on Jan 1945 where he deployed to the Asiatic-Pacific theatre in WW II. Joe was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Once returning from service he worked for Art Albrecht welding in Elizabeth where he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Kuhns, on November 17, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover. They were blessed with 66 memorable years together.
Joe worked with his brother in law in Stockton IL before purchasing the Kuhns family farm in Hanover. They owned and operated the farm until 1989 when tradition was passed on to Joe Jr. After farming, Joe worked at Jo Daviess Mutual Insurance, Hanover Lumber, and later Service Star.
Joe was the heart of the Pash family, always putting family first. He was cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was meticulous and prideful with maintaining his property, sure to feed all the birds (and a few pesky squirrels). Hobbies of Joe’s included woodworking, hunting, fishing, golfing, teasing and tormenting all the generations below him. He will be missed for his love, humor and quick wit. He was known in his family for fixing and solving anything brought to him. Joe served on many boards including Jo Daviess Mutual Insurance, Lions Club and Hanover Evergreen Cemetery. Joe was a member and Council member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and treasurer of Hanover American Legion post 707.
Joe will be dearly missed by his three daughters Vicky (Jim Buckholz) Hastings of Hanover, Cheryl (Kenny) Durland of Yorkville IL, and Martha (Richard) Schwenk of Virginia Beach, VA; his son, Joe M. (Pat) Pash, Jr. of Hanover IL, three grandsons, Todd Hastings, Jeff Moore, and Richie Schwenk; three granddaughters, Kimberly (Dean) Ertmer, Jennifer Moore and Kristen Schwenk; three great-grandsons, Wesley, Cody and Gavin; two great granddaughters, Natasha and Alexandra; one brother, Fred Pash; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth, four sisters (Eva, Violet, Ruth and Joyce), and three brothers (Harry, Ed and Leonard) and two son-in-laws, Allen Hastings and James P Moore.
