Joanna L. Heatley, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
She was born May 8, 1925 in Savanna, Illinois, daughter of Rudolph S. and Mary Ann “Mamie” (O’Leary) Ritter. She married William G. Heatley on August 21, 1954 in Milwaukee, Illinois, and they later divorced.
She graduated from Savanna Township High School in 1942 and Mt. St. Clare College in 1945. She completed the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Kansas in 1947 and earned her BA degree in 1985 from the University of California Northbridge. She was a physical therapist in Milwaukee, and at the VA in Sepulveda, CA, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo.
Survived by: a daughter, Mary “Meg” Heatley of Waterloo; two sons, John (Jean) Heatley of Bellevue, NE, and William (Becky) Heatley of Oak Park, CA; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Art Clark of Milwaukee.
Preceded in death by: a son, James Heatley; a daughter, Michele Heatley Brander; and a sister, Eileen Ritter Clark.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service, where there will be a 3 p.m. Rosary and 6 p.m. Vigil Service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna, Illinois, with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to March of Dimes.
