JoAnn Louise Perez, age 79, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2016, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Savanna.
JoAnn was born March 31, 1937, the daughter of Agapito and Irene (Gonzalez) Rubio in Niland, California. She attended St. John Catholic Schools in Savanna. JoAnn married Vearl “Popeye” Lahre in 1962 and then later married Federico Perez in 1975.
JoAnn was employed at Swiss Colony in Savanna for 15 years. She also worked for Laws Motel and the Townhouse Restaurant in Savanna. She enjoyed attending family gatherings and watching her daily soap operas. Her family will always remember her as being a great cook. She also loved eating candy, drinking beer, and taking rides on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
JoAnn will be dearly missed by her three children, Robin Smith of Freeport, Illinois, Vearl (Suzanne) Lahre of Hawthorne, Nevada, Irene Castleman of DeWitt, Iowa; and ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Carlos Rubio; and a sister, Mary Rice.
