Joan R. Lang of Orland Park passed away May 8, 2024, at the age of 85, at Smith Crossing Retirement Community. A funeral service will be held on May 14 at 4 p.m at Law Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 2.pm. to 4p.m at the funeral home. Joan and her husband, Kenneth, will be buried together at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL on Wednesday, May 15 at 11 a.m.
Joan was born on October 16, 1938, to Raymond and Jean (Ehrich) Ostley in Albert Lea, MN. After graduating high school, she attended Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, graduating with the class of ’59. On August 1, 1959, Joan married Kenneth Lang, they spent 62 years together before Kenneth’s passing in February, 2022.
Joan had worked in the nursing profession up until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed being a member of the Methodist Kahler Alumni, as well as an Associate of Church activities. Joan enjoyed sewing, needlework, travelling and reading when she had time. During her travels, Joan had gone on 5 cruises, going to destinations such as Norway and Scotland. Most importantly, she loved spending time and doing activities with her family.
Joan will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Dawn (Rick) Dixon of Mokena, IL, Ann Strawson of Willmington, IL, and Cynthia O’Dea of Orland Park, IL; one sister, Karen (Eldon) Nelson of Fergus Falls, MN; two brothers, Michael (Mary) Ostley of Austin, MN, and Mark (Julie) Ostley of Minneapolis, MN; nine grandchildren, Scott, Doug, Lindsay, Brian, Kyle, Justin, Michael, Jennifer, and Matthew; and 11 great-grandchildren. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Eldon Nelson, son-in-law, William Strawson, and beloved husband, Kenneth.
